SUMMARY

The Diesel Mechanic will perform truck repair and maintenance work in accordance with factory and industry standards, run diagnostics on vehicles, and work closely with other team members to meet company goals.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preforms all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance of fleet vehicles at assigned intervals.
  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests to troubleshoot issues and ensure vehicle in proper operating condition.
  • Identify worn and damaged parts (all parts to include major components such as engines and transmissions), repairing, adjusting, or replacing as needed.
  • Preform annual DOT inspections.
  • Service and maintain fuel and cooling systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Communicate with parts clerk to obtain needed parts for job.
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (IF ANY)

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as Class 8 Diesel Mechanic.
  • Must have own hand tools.
  • Basic computer skills to input vehicle maintenance records and diagnosis equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job (job requires frequent lifting/moving up to 50lbs, climbing, stooping, kneeling, seeing, grasping, hearing, etc.)

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Computer Skills

  • Basic computer skills
  • Familiar with windows operating system
  • Able to use vendor software to connect to vehicles

Language Skills

  • English (reading, writing, and verbal)

Mathematical Skills

  • Basic Math

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Class A CDL with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain one
  • OEM training and/or certifications
  • Associates Degree in Diesel Technology

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee uses his/her hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear.  The employee uses computer and telephone equipment. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision and distance vision. May require physical effort associated with using the computer to access information, or occasional standing, walking, lifting needed to carry out everyday activities.  Travel may be required for this role domestically.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
