Job Posting Title: Logistics Supervisor 

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the management of the people, clients, and deliverables of the Logistics team. The Logistics Supervisor also serves as an escalation point for issues outside of the authority of the Logistics Agent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Logistics Supervisor can be broken down into four areas of responsibility: People Management, Client Relationship, Operational Excellence, House Keeping and Compliance.

People Management

  • Assesses performance of the staff and provides timely feedback both formally through the performance management system and informally through coaching and mentoring
  • Provides guidance to staff to foster career development, best practices and optimal morale in the organization.
  • Ensures that staff and equipment needs are met to sustain service levels
  • Ensures that staff are properly trained and working consistently to meet client needs

Client Relationship

  • Works with multiple teams as required to solve any complex client requests or complaints
  • Develops relationships with clients and becomes familiar with key contacts, unique requirements, and operating processes
  • Maintain a professional manner in appearance and communications at all times.

Operational Excellence

  • Assists Warehouse Manager and/or Logistics Manager with operational budgets
  • Analyzes and reports on costs and productivity within the department to ensure prescribed productivity and service goals are met.
  • Ensures logistics facility operates in compliance with federal, state, and local statutes. 
  • Analyzes and reports on carrier performance
  • Ensures that Core Operational Processes are meeting targeted service levels around shipping, receiving, and warehousing functions:
    • Pickup Management
    • On-hand
    • Movement
    • Shipment Inbound
    • Delivery Management
    • ULD Management/Build Up
    • Inventory
    • Training
  • Verifies that the team meets the key performance indicators (KPIs) as agreed in contracted client Service Level Agreements (SLAs) around shipping, receiving and warehousing functions.  
  • Relays consistent issues to the Logistics Manager or Branch Manager in a timely and efficient matter.
  • Educates self and others regarding the DSV Air & Sea product offerings
  • Ensures all Logistic Agents complete their assigned duties per DSV Air & Sea regulations

Housekeeping, and Compliance

  • Accomplishes all job tasks in a manner that promotes safety
  • Responsible for cleanliness of warehouse office.
  • Maintains a clean, neat, orderly work area, and assist in security of the warehouse.
  • Complies with all Standard Operating Procedures, corporate and site specific policies, safety rules, Pharmaceutical Regulations, TSA Regulations, US Customs Regulations and OSHA/ MSDS Standards.
  • ID badges must be worn at all times. Follow posted security procedures at all times while in the building. Prevent (if possible) or identify any type of safety violations that may occur.

OTHER DUTIES

Performs other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises work assignments, training, and performance management of direct personnel and provide mentoring to other managers and their direct reports. 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5 years Logistics experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership role in logistics/distribution/supply chain environment

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Professional Designations

  • Material Handling Certification
  • Dangerous Goods Qualification
  • Forklift Operation and Certification

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Computer Skills

  • Strong proficiency in basic MS Office applications is needed.

Language Skills

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English

Mathematical Skills

  • Basic level required with the ability to verify inventory, order accuracy, and other quality driven initiatives.

Other Skills

  • The ability to be clear and articulate on the phone and in person with strong writing and clear presentation abilities- persuasive but empathetic.
  • The ability to handle conflict and pressure, set priorities and abide to them, and maintain consistent and positive customer service image under difficult conditions.
  • The ability to distill complex issues into simple tasks.
  • The ability to work within a matrix organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Computer Skills

  • Some experience with WMS (Warehouse Management Systems).

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree desirable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, reach, and climb.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds continuously.
  • Must be able to operate material handling equipment. 
  • Must be able to stand for several hours per day to perform required job duties as required by the nature of the business that is supported.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Working conditions are normal for a warehouse environment with exposure to changing warehouse temperatures.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
