SUMMARY

The Ocean Export Managers are responsible for the management of the people, clients, and deliverables of the Ocean Operations teams and serves as an escalation point.  In some branches, Air and Ocean may be separate positions, in other branches, these job duties may be combined.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Ocean Export Manager position(s) can be broken down into three areas of responsibility: People Management, Client Relationship, and Operational Excellence

People Management

  • Ensures that the department is fully staffed and is working at capacity
  • Assesses performance of the staff and provides timely feedback both formally through the performance management system and informally through coaching and mentoring
  • Ensures that the team is properly trained
  • Verifies that the team meets the clients need around shipment bookings, collections, delivery, and shipment updates and that client expectations are thoroughly managed
  • Confirms that the team processes the shipments as outlined in the SOP’s and DSV Air & Sea, Inc. policies and procedures
  • Ensures that the team follows the Operational Data Quality Policy and responds to any questions from the team regarding the policy

Client Relationship

  • Develops relationships with clients and serves as an escalation point as needed
  • Manages third party service providers to ensure world class, seamless service delivery to the clients
  • Where applicable, engage with clients when there are issues with service delivery and non-payment of invoices
  • Operational Excellence
  • Verify that all invoices are accurate and timely
  • Support the sales team in calls where operational expertise is required
  • Educate self and others regarding the DSV Air & Sea, Inc.  product offerings
  • Assist Branch Managers with operational budgets
  • Analyze and report on performance of the business unit to ensure that budget performance measures are met

OTHER DUTIES

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (IF ANY)

Supervise work assignments, training, and performance management of direct personnel and provide mentoring to other direct report, supervisory managers. 

QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED)

  • Ability to make quick and clear decisions while adapting to changing circumstances

  • Able to work independently, but within the boundaries prescribed by DSV Air & Sea, Inc.  policies and procedures

Computer Skills

Beginning to intermediate Excel skills, basic Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.  Knowledgeable in DSV Air & Sea, Inc. products.

Education and/or Experience

  • Must possess strong knowledge and understanding of the freight forwarding business
  • College degree preferred, but a combination of equivalent and education experience may be substituted
  • 1-2 years of operational experience
  • 2-3 years experience managing teams
  • 2 years experience with managing and compiling budgets
  • 2 years client relationship management

Language Skills

Must be able to read, write, and speak English

Must be able to read, write, and speak the local country language

Mathematical Skills

In addition to basic math, must be able to analyze numerical data and understand components and relationships, find patterns, and draw conclusions.  Able to develop and maintain budget information.
